Why Do I Need This?

I ate breakfast today, I'm totally taking care of myself.
This is how I usually think: I woke up and am breathing, I should be grateful. I am grateful but I also need to make sure that I set myself up to do it again tomorrow.
That's where everything else comes in.
The everything else in taking care of myself lies in making peace and being delicate with myself. Being extremely hard on myself is a method of achievement that I use and has worked for me.
If I can push myself, I can achieve my goals.
If I achieve my goals, then I will be successful.
If I am successful, then...what?
The trouble with this is, you lose sight of your goal. Not the immediate goal, because you are locked tight on that sight, but the overall goal. My overall goal, as far as I can remember anyway, has more to do with feeling and giving love than having things. I want to be the best daughter, sister, friend, and partner that I can be to those I love. That is my goal and that is why self care is important to me. I need to take care of myself so that I can achieve that goal.
Why do you want a house?
Why do you want that car?
Why do you need more clothes?
Why do you want that promotion?
So I am shifting my focus on the now and what I can do to make myself better. I believe that by making myself feel better, I can help the people I love feel better. I have to start with me first. How can you help someone if you haven't helped yourself?
